Is desire the root cause of all evils?

All human beings living in this world created by God desire to live peacefully, with their basic needs—such as food, clothing, and shelter—met. Yet, some individuals engage in various wrongful acts, driven by greed for the possessions, wealth, and rights of others, even while fully aware that their actions cause suffering to others.

What is the root cause of all this?

Greed. Desire is a natural human emotion; however, when it exceeds reasonable limits and transforms into greed, it leads a person down the wrong path. It fosters the mindset that one must possess everything for oneself, compelling the individual to live without regard for the well-being of others. Man begins to live for greed rather than for actual needs. Desire is simply a wish; greed is an insatiable craving that far surpasses necessity.

Will actions driven by such greed bring about any good for others?

Of course not. On the contrary, it creates suffering for others and unrest in society.
Therefore, a higher life is one that helps others rather than lives by stealing what belongs to others. When the spirit of helping grows, selfishness diminishes; greed disappears; humanity flourishes. A mind that rejoices in the welfare of others is true wealth. Such a life is what elevates a person.
